A Sargent watercolour: among rocks by a stream, a painter in a white hat sits at an easel with his back to us while another figure leans over a rock in the foreground, sketching.

2026 · plaster, questions and sources

An exhibit that answers questions. It has read the admissions pages of 36 schools and points you back to the official page and the date it was checked. Where a school’s site says nothing, it tells you so.

Ask Yixiaoliu

The route through the galleries

Understanding one school’s requirements takes three steps, and each one ends on the school’s own page.

  1. Choose a school

Find it among 36 art, design and music schools, by discipline or by country.

  2. Compare line by line

Portfolio size, English scores, tuition and deadlines for several schools side by side.

  3. Return to the source

Every line links to the official page and the date checked. Unsure about something? Ask Yixiaoliu.

Enter by discipline

Film, fashion, architecture, illustration and more. Each list holds the catalogued schools whose own sites name the discipline, with their stated requirements. It is a filter, not a ranking.

Selected entries

Six of the schools people search for most, entered the way a museum catalogue enters a work: every requirement taken from the official site, with the source and the date checked.

Swap “I heard” for “the official page says”.

A lot of what students hear about art school admissions is passed on by word of mouth. We open each school’s admissions pages and copy down the portfolio size, English scores, fees and deadlines as written, noting which page and which day. When a school changes its page, we change ours; when it says nothing, we write “not stated”.

Notes for visitors

Where the data comes from, how fresh it is, and what Yixiaoliu can and cannot do for you.

Where does the information come from?

Every portfolio, English, tuition and deadline requirement is taken from the admissions pages of the school’s own website. Each school page lists the official pages we actually checked and the date we checked them. Agency articles and forum posts are not used as sources.

Can the information go out of date?

Yes. Art schools change portfolio requirements and deadlines almost every year, and fees change with each academic year. Every entry carries the date it was checked; open the official page again before you submit an application.

Is this a ranking of the best art schools?

No. The catalogue lists schools and what they officially require; it does not score or rank them. Which school is best depends on your work, your budget and the kind of teaching you want, which is what the comparison table and Yixiaoliu can help you weigh.

Can Yixiaoliu help me decide where to apply?

Start with the comparison table to put requirements side by side by country and degree. To weigh them against your own portfolio, English scores and budget, select “Ask Yixiaoliu” and ask in the chat.
